France announces 2027 income tax scale adjustments

The French government has announced that it will not freeze the income tax scale for 2027. This decision aims to prevent a mechanical increase in taxation for households whose incomes rise in line with inflation.

Based on an anticipated annual inflation rate of 2% from Insee for 2026, the tax thresholds are expected to be adjusted upward. This revaluation is intended to neutralize the impact of rising prices on taxpayers.

Separately, the French tax authorities are preparing for a major regularization process. Starting September 25, 2026, approximately 13.1 million taxpayers will be charged for 2025 income tax adjustments, with an average payment of 1,901 euros. This follows a period where 12.6 million taxpayers received average refunds of 1,057 euros in July due to overpayments.
