France announces potential ecology budget increase for 2027
The French government is navigating conflicting signals regarding environmental funding for 2027. Sébastien Lecornu has announced that ecology is among the few budget areas expected to increase in 2027, alongside defense, justice, interior, and research. However, specific figures for this increase will not be disclosed until the 2027 finance bill is presented on October 1.
This announcement follows significant recent cuts. A September 10, 2026, decree canceled approximately 157.5 million euros in payment credits for the mission involving ecology, sustainable development, and mobility. Additionally, reports indicate the government is considering a drastic reduction of over 30% for the Agency for Ecological Transition (Ademe), which could amount to a loss of more than 300 million euros. Such a cut to Ademe could impact circular economy projects, building renovations, and renewable energy development.
