France announces unusual 2027-2028 school calendar

The French Ministry of National Education has released the school calendar for the 2027-2028 academic year, featuring an unconventional start date. Classes are scheduled to begin on Thursday, September 2, 2027, rather than the traditional Monday.

Teachers are set to hold their preparatory sessions on September 1. The new schedule provides families with a slightly extended summer break but may disrupt established routines. The calendar maintains the existing zone system (A, B, and C) for winter and spring holidays, though specific adjustments to the duration between breaks have been noted for certain regions.
