France: Arrests made in tobacco shop robbery and commercial burglaries
Authorities in France have made several arrests following recent criminal incidents targeting businesses. In Villefranche-sur-Saône, two 16-year-old adolescents were apprehended less than an hour after an armed robbery at a tobacco shop. The suspects allegedly threatened an employee with a knife and stole dozens of cigarette packs. They were located by municipal police in a parking area after being identified via video surveillance.
In the Lyon area, a repeat offender has been incarcerated following a flagrant arrest linked to a series of burglaries. The suspect is believed to be involved in thefts targeting shops and restaurants in Lyon’s 6th arrondissement and Villeurbanne. While the arrest provides a lead in a period of increased commercial thefts, prosecutors noted that a separate investigation is underway to determine if the individual is responsible for older burglaries in the region.
