France auto insurance premiums differ sharply across cities and car models

In France, the average annual auto‑insurance premium can vary from about €660 in Nice to more than €710 in Drancy, with cities such as Lyon, Toulouse and Bobigny seeing averages between €670 and €695. The cost is driven by local factors like vehicle theft rates, dense traffic, and the prevalence of two‑wheelers, which raise the likelihood of claims.

Premiums also diverge between vehicle models. Insurers factor in repair expenses, the price of spare parts, and the complexity of modern electronics. Cars equipped with advanced driver‑assist systems or electric powertrains incur higher repair costs, especially for battery replacement, and models that are frequently targeted by thieves attract higher rates. These variables mean that two cars sold at the same purchase price can have insurance premiums that differ by several hundred euros.
