France bank fraud reaches 1.24 billion euros in 2025
Bank fraud in France rose to 1.24 billion euros in 2025, a 3.8% increase driven largely by manipulation-based scams, according to data from the Banque de France’s Observatoire de la sécurité des moyens de paiement (OSMP).
Manipulation scams, which involve criminals impersonating bank advisors to trick victims into validating fraudulent transactions, saw a 34% year-on-year surge, reaching 516 million euros. These tactics now account for more than 40% of all payment fraud, up from 32.1% in 2024.
Experts note that recent data leaks have enhanced the effectiveness of these scams by providing fraudsters with personal details to make phishing messages appear more credible. The OSMP highlighted that no demographic is exempt from these attacks, affecting young people, the elderly, and high-income professionals alike.
