France beats Senegal 3-1 as Mbappe scores twice at World Cup

France opened the men's World Cup with a 3‑1 victory over Senegal. Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring in the 66th minute, Bradley Barcola added a second in the 82nd, and Mbappé sealed the win with a long‑range strike in the 96th minute. The win gave France a strong start to the tournament and left Mbappé with 14 World Cup goals, equalising Gerd Müller’s record and surpassing Lionel Messi’s 13.

In a separate group match, Norway defeated Iraq 2‑1. Erling Haaland scored his second World Cup goal, bringing his international tally to 56 and helping Norway take the lead in their group.
