France boosts school‑supply allowance to €466 for teens in 2026

The French school‑supply allowance (Allocation de rentrée scolaire, ARS) was increased by 0.8 % for the 2026 school year. Eligible children aged 6‑10 receive €426.87, those 11‑14 receive €450.41, and adolescents 15‑18 receive €466.02 per child. Payments are made automatically by the Caisse d’allocations familiales (CAF) and the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA) when families’ income declarations are up‑to‑date, with the main disbursement scheduled for Tuesday 18 August 2026 in mainland France and an advance on 4 August in Mayotte and La Réunion.

The allowance is means‑tested, using 2024 income levels, and applies to children, students and apprentices born between 16 September 2008 and 31 December 2020, as well as younger children already in primary school. Many families miss the benefit because they overlook the relevant CAF portal section or fail to update their resources. The articles advise checking the CAF personal space, comparing prices early in August, and using available discounts to reduce overall school‑supply costs.
