France National Assembly considers reducing former Prime Ministers' benefits

The French National Assembly's finance commission has adopted an amendment aimed at halving the duration of material benefits provided to former Prime Ministers. The proposal, introduced by deputy Marie-Christine Dalloz, seeks to reduce the period for state-funded perks—such as a private secretary and a car with a driver—from ten years to five years.

This measure is estimated to generate approximately 520,000 euros in savings. The initiative comes amid broader discussions regarding public spending reductions and fiscal discipline. While the amendment targets former heads of government, Éric Coquerel, president of the finance commission, suggested that budget control efforts should also extend to the benefits granted to former presidents of the Republic.
