France business registrations accelerate in August

New data from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) shows a strong acceleration in business registrations in France during August. After a modest 0.9% increase in July, the number of new businesses grew by 6.5% month-on-month.

This growth was largely driven by micro-enterprises, which saw a 7.3% increase, and traditional sole proprietorships, which rose by 7.9%. Additionally, company-based registrations rebounded with a 3.8% increase following a decline in July.

Sector-specific data highlights significant growth in transport and warehousing (+11.5%), automobile sales and repair (+10.9%), and accommodation and catering (+17.4%). Conversely, the construction sector experienced a slight decline of 0.7%. Over the last three months, the cumulative number of new businesses has increased by 13.1% compared to the same period last year.
