France calls on seniors to share experiences of loneliness and isolation
A French media outlet has issued a public appeal for elderly individuals and their relatives to submit personal testimonies about feelings of solitude, depression and inactivity that can accompany aging. The call highlights common triggers such as retirement, the loss of a spouse or friends, distance from family, health problems and reduced autonomy, which may lead to a state described as the “spleen” of older people – a loss of morale and social withdrawal.
Respondents are invited to describe how isolation has changed their daily lives, what helps them maintain morale, and what support they believe would improve assistance for lonely seniors. Submissions can remain anonymous, and the collected accounts will inform an upcoming article on elderly loneliness in France.
