Investigators believe the thieves utilized ‘mouse jacking,’ a technique where electronic signals from a key fob are scanned to create a virtual duplicate, allowing thieves to unlock and start the car without any physical signs of forced entry.

In a separate incident in the Paris region, a luxury car owner utilized connected vehicle technology to combat theft. After discovering his vehicle had been stolen, the owner used a dedicated smartphone application to track the car’s real-time location. The vehicle’s connectivity allowed the owner to monitor the thieves' movements and utilize a remote engine disabling feature to intervene during the pursuit.
