France celebrates 400 years of the National Navy
France is holding various commemorations to mark the 400th anniversary of the National Navy, tracing its history back to the creation of the State Navy by Cardinal Richelieu in 1626.
In La Seyne-sur-Mer, an exhibition at the Bourse du travail features approximately fifty rare submarine models. Organized by the association Les Amis des Sous-Marins in partnership with AMMAC Cannes-Pays de Lérins, the display showcases technological evolution from the steam era to nuclear fuel cells. The collection includes functional models from France, England, Germany, Russia, the United States, Japan, and Australia.
In Les Sables-d'Olonne, ceremonies at the Prieuré Saint-Nicolas focused on historical memory and youth engagement. The event highlighted the involvement of military trainees, the coastal reserve, and the municipal youth council. Local officials noted the importance of maritime identity and announced the creation of a new coastal reserve squadron based in Les Sables-d'Olonne, with an official command ceremony scheduled for early next year.
