Childcare costs in France, specifically for family assistants and childminders, show significant regional disparities. According to data from the platform Yoopies, based on official Urssaf figures, rates for childminders can vary by up to 29% between different departments.

For in-home childcare, the discrepancy between the most and least expensive departments reaches approximately 11%. Haute-Savoie reports the highest hourly rates, while Pas-de-Calais and Marne offer more affordable options. Overall, childcare rates are rising two to four times faster than inflation.

Regarding family assistants, while a national floor is established by law, individual departmental councils determine additional compensation. A technical distinction exists in how these amounts are written: those indexed to the SMIC (minimum wage) automatically adjust with inflation, whereas those fixed in euros remain static unless the council votes for a new deliberation, potentially falling below legal minimums over time due to inflation.
