France clarifies RSA eligibility for lone parents, students and inheritance reporting

The French Revenu de solidarité active (RSA) includes a higher‑rate version, RSA majoré, for lone parents. Eligibility extends to parents who are also enrolled in education or training, provided they either meet the general lone‑parent definition or work at least about 17.5 hours per week. The amount exceeds the basic RSA, and the duration of the majoration depends on the youngest child’s age: payments continue until the child turns three, or for a maximum of twelve months if all children are older than three.

Beneficiaries must also declare any inheritance to the Caisse d’allocations familiales (CAF). Inherited cash is treated as an exceptional resource, rental income from inherited property is fully counted, and interest from inherited savings is included; blocked capital is evaluated using a 3 % forfait rate. Failure to report can trigger suspension of benefits or repayment of overpaid amounts.
