France commissions the Tourville nuclear attack submarine

France has taken delivery of the Tourville, the third submarine of the Barracuda‑class nuclear attack fleet. The vessel, about 99 metres long and displacing roughly 5,800 tonnes, incorporates advanced stealth measures, including acoustic isolation, optimized hull shape and a low‑cavitation propeller to minimise detection by sonar.

Its nuclear reactor allows the submarine to remain submerged for months, limited only by crew provisions, and equips it with a comprehensive sensor suite for intelligence gathering and maritime surveillance. The addition of the Tourville is billed as a significant boost to French naval security and strategic capabilities.
