France commuter trends show rising interest in electrified vehicles

A 2026 survey conducted by Ifop for Alphabet reveals that 74% of workers in France use a car for their daily commute, a figure that has stabilized compared to previous years. While car usage remains dominant, there is a notable shift in vehicle preferences; 60% of respondents intend to choose an electrified motor (electric, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid) for their next vehicle, while interest in traditional petrol and diesel engines has declined to 38%.

Regarding transportation modes, 23% of workers use public transit, and 27% utilize soft or electric mobility options. Multimodality is common, with 30% of respondents combining different methods to reach their workplace. Geographic differences persist, as car usage is 87% in towns with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants, compared to only 50% in the Paris region. The average commute distance and duration remain stable at 17 km and 24 minutes, respectively.
