France considers changes to large family retirement bonus

The French government is considering changes to the 10% retirement bonus currently granted to parents of at least three children. Under the proposed reforms within the 2027 Social Security Financing Bill (PLFSS), the calculation method for this supplement may change.

Currently, the bonus is applied as a percentage of the calculated pension, including supplementary schemes like Agirc-Arrco. Because the bonus is proportional, it results in higher absolute euro amounts for individuals with higher pensions. Critics note that since men's pensions are, on average, higher than women's, the current system disproportionately benefits fathers. If the reform is implemented, the expected amount for those retiring after 2027 could be lower than under the existing rules.
