France considers making plastic and aluminum deposit schemes optional
The French government is reportedly considering making the deposit return scheme for plastic bottles and aluminum cans optional for local authorities. This potential decision follows a report from general inspections that advised against implementing such a system.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu is said to have made the arbitration regarding this policy. The move has caused tension with local authority associations, such as Amorce, which had planned protests to oppose the decision. If officialized, the policy would shift the approach to recycling management for various municipalities.
