France consumer goods market shows resilience in August 2026

The consumer goods market in France showed resilience in August 2026, with volume increasing by 0.8% and turnover by 1.1% compared to August 2025. This growth occurred despite zero residual inflation and minimal premiumization, indicating continued consumer caution.

Heatwaves during the period positively impacted sales by 0.7%, particularly driving demand for non-alcoholic beverages, water, and refreshing products like ice cream and fresh salads. Conversely, the sweet grocery sector saw a decline due to high temperatures.

Distribution channels showed diverging trends: proximity stores saw a 7.4% volume increase and e-commerce grew by 6.7%, while hypermarkets and supermarkets experienced declines. A significant shift was noted as national brands regained momentum against private label brands (MDD), reversing a trend that had favored private labels for over a year.
