France deploys 33,000 mobile AC units to hospitals and earmarks €130 million for school cooling

The French government announced that 33,000 mobile air‑conditioning units have been delivered to hospitals and nursing homes as an emergency response to the historic June heatwave. The equipment, purchased with a €100 million emergency fund, is intended to improve working conditions for staff and comfort for patients, though unions criticize the units as consumer‑grade and insufficient for long‑term hospital use.

Separately, the ministries of Health and Education disclosed a €130 million package to equip up to 10,000 schools, including those in Réunion, with cooling solutions and related building works by the end of September. Funding comes from €80 million allocated by EDF and €50 million from the Caisse des Dépôts, covering more than 100,000 devices such as fans, misting systems, and air‑conditioners, plus up to €10,000 per school for renovation projects, with a rollout extending to 2027.
