France deploys junior doctors to combat medical shortages

A new initiative is deploying junior doctors across various French regions to address medical deserts and improve access to care. In the Occitanie region, 241 fourth-year general medicine students will join medical practices, multi-professional health centers, and health centers starting November 2. More than 40% of these doctors will be stationed in priority zones. The distribution includes 58 in Haute-Garonne, 35 in Gard, 26 in Hérault, and smaller numbers across departments such as Ariège, Aude, Aveyron, Gers, Hautes-Pyrénées, Lot, Lozère, Pyrénées-Orientales, Tarn, and Tarn-et-Garonne.

In the Orne department, the village of Briouze is preparing to welcome five new medical professionals, including two junior doctors, two interns, and one replacement physician. To accommodate this influx and compensate for local retirements, the municipality plans to install two modular buildings featuring waiting rooms and consultation offices while an expansion project continues with Flers Agglo.
