France Embraces Insulating Décor and Circular Furniture for Home Makeovers
French interior designers report a growing demand for décor that also improves thermal comfort. Homeowners are turning to insulated curtains, acoustic felt panels and thick rugs to boost perceived energy efficiency without major renovations, following recent energy‑performance reforms.
At the same time, the market for second‑hand and modular furniture is expanding. Major retailers such as IKEA France and Maisons du Monde have launched buy‑back, resale and repair services, supported by the EU’s 2024 durability regulations that encourage interchangeable components and reusable covers. Consumers are using vintage pieces and biographical objects—travel souvenirs, family photos—to personalize spaces while reducing waste.
Experts also stress the importance of layered lighting, recommending at least three distinct light sources at varying heights to create depth and avoid flat illumination.
