France enhances heritage preservation through training and new monument designations

In France, initiatives to protect historical heritage are expanding through both professional training and official monument designations. The association Sites & Cités remarquables de France has launched a comprehensive training program for local authorities to address the challenges of preserving ancient centers and historical monuments. This program focuses on legal, fiscal, and technical expertise, including the use of Real Estate Restoration Operations (ORI) to combat urban decay and housing unsanitary conditions.

Simultaneously, the city of Lorient in Brittany has seen six of its buildings officially inscribed as historical monuments by the regional prefect. These sites, which span three centuries of history from the Compagnie des Indes era to the city's reconstruction, represent a significant official recognition of the region's diverse architectural wealth.
