Bouygues Telecom finishes nationwide XGS‑PON rollout, delivering 8 Gbps symmetric fibre
Bouygues Telecom announced that it has completed the deployment of XGS‑PON technology across its entire fibre‑to‑the‑home network in France. The upgrade replaces the older GPON system and enables symmetric download and upload speeds of up to 8 Gbps for all customers without the need for new cables.
Technical director Jean‑Paul Arzel highlighted the effort as a result of coordinated work across the country, noting that the new equipment is integrated into existing fibre strands and that compatible Bbox Wi‑Fi 7 terminals will allow subscribers to access the higher speeds. The move positions Bouygues Telecom ahead of rivals such as SFR, Orange and Free in offering full‑nation XGS‑PON coverage.
The deployment aims to support growing bandwidth demands from remote work, streaming, gaming and cloud services, and is seen as a step toward narrowing the digital divide in France.
