France expands and enriches EHPAD care with new facilities and non‑drug therapies

In Marseille, an EHPAD is introducing a suite of non‑medication interventions—including music, art, animal‑assisted and Snoezelen therapies—to complement medical treatment and improve residents’ physical, cognitive and emotional wellbeing. The initiative is part of a broader municipal effort that includes the construction of an 88‑bed public intergenerational EHPAD in the city’s northern districts, funded with €25 million and aimed at providing more affordable care.

In Liffré, the local EHPAD is extending its capacity with a new building behind the existing structure. The project preserves 14 of the site’s trees, removes 24, and compensates by planting 72 new trees on the site and elsewhere. The extension has received municipal approval and a favorable opinion from the Architecte des Bâtiments de France, ensuring compliance with urban planning and heritage protection rules.
