France expands electric‑bike subsidy up to €400 for low‑income households

The French government has introduced a financial grant for individuals purchasing a new electric bicycle (VAE). The aid, which can reach €400 and be combined with regional or local subsidies, targets adults with modest tax‑able income, with additional provisions for people with disabilities or students.

Eligibility requires the buyer to be a French resident, to acquire a brand‑new VAE that meets regulatory standards, and not to resell the bike within a year. Applicants must submit an online request with the purchase invoice, proof of address, identity documents and, when applicable, a tax notice. The grant is paid after the purchase upon verification of the documents.
