France expands farm animal adoption projects in Nord‑Pas‑de‑Calais and Brest

The association Le Sanctuaire du FUTUR is calling on residents of the Nord and Pas‑de‑Calais departments to become the first families to adopt rescued farm animals such as pigs, sheep and goats. The group, which already supports 100 homes across France and abroad, says 1,300 farm animals have been saved since its founding and aims to make farm‑animal adoption as common as cat and dog adoption. “A pig can be cuddly, a sheep can play with a child,” project lead Floriane Petit‑Laumonier said, stressing the goal of changing public perception of these animals.

In the city of Brest, the community association Vert le Jardin is preparing a 2,800 m² mini‑farm in the Pontanézen district, funded with €125,000 from the local participatory budget. The “Des animaux sous le chêne” project will host chickens, goats, sheep, rabbits and other animals, offering a space for residents, schools and leisure centres to visit. Director Michel Campion explained that the farm will provide a “good image of the neighbourhood” and be accessible to people with reduced mobility, with an opening planned for spring.
