France expands regional cycling initiatives and soft mobility

France is seeing various regional initiatives aimed at promoting cycling and soft mobility. In the Île-de-France region, an ambitious cycling policy is being implemented to expand the VIF (Vélo en Île-de-France) network. During the annual Regional Cycling Meetings held in Saint-Ouen, officials and the collective Vélo Île-de-France discussed progress in infrastructure. Advocates emphasized that cycling is not limited to Paris and its immediate suburbs but is increasingly relevant for commuting, leisure, and errands in the outer rings of the region.

In the town of Millau, a new association called Maison du vélo has launched to encourage bicycle use. Created by In’VD, the organization offers bike rentals, refresher courses for urban riding, and school bike-bus programs. The initiative also provides adapted bicycles, such as tandems, to support people with reduced mobility and aims to encourage local institutions like elderly care homes to invest in cycling options.
