France expands support for aging disabled with home‑autonomy programs

France is strengthening support for older adults with disabilities to remain independent at home. A recent overview highlights medical‑equipment solutions such as lift chairs, bathroom grab bars, tele‑assistance and compact‑design devices that help prevent falls and reduce hospitalisations for seniors and those with reduced mobility.

In the Hauts‑de‑Seine department, the Unapei 92 organisation launched the EMMA‑H (Equipe Mobile Maintien Autonomie – Handicap) programme in January 2025. The mobile team assists adults aged 45 and over who are living with disability, whether in non‑medical residential facilities or private homes. EMMA‑H provides assessment, support and preventative services, coordinating care among health professionals, social workers and therapists. Its multidisciplinary staff includes geriatric doctors, nurses, specialised educators, occupational therapists and neuro‑psychologists, and it works with local authorities and home‑care providers to adapt living environments and preserve autonomy.
