Morocco issues orange weather alert for thunderstorms and hail

Morocco's General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange level weather alert for several provinces, warning of intense thunderstorms, hail, and strong wind gusts. The disturbances are expected to impact various regions, including the Atlas Mountains, the Middle Atlas, and southeastern areas.

Forecasts indicate significant rainfall, with some areas like Figuig potentially receiving between 30 and 50 mm. Other provinces, such as Tata, Al Haouz, Marrakech, and Ouarzazate, are expected to see accumulations between 25 and 40 mm. The weather patterns may lead to rapid deterioration in conditions, including risks of localized flooding, sudden river rises, and disruptions to road traffic and agricultural activities.

Temperatures are expected to fluctuate, with notable decreases in the Eastern region and the Middle Atlas. In the southern provinces, moderate to strong winds may cause localized dust storms. Residents in affected areas are advised to exercise caution and monitor updated meteorological bulletins.
