France experiences significant temperature drop and polar air influx

A polar air mass has moved across France, bringing a sharp decline in temperatures and seasonal shifts. Following a period of warmth, the country has entered a cold autumn phase characterized by significant temperature fluctuations.

In the north and west, including Normandy and Hauts-de-France, morning frosts have been reported in valleys and exposed areas. The weather remains overcast with moderate to strong winds along the English Channel coasts. In the Île-de-France region, morning lows reached between 3°C and 5°C, with afternoon highs struggling to exceed 14°C.

The Grand Est, Burgundy, and Alpine regions are experiencing the most intense cold, with temperatures in valleys dropping to 2°C or 3°C. Snow accumulation has been noted in the Vosges, Jura, and Alps at altitudes above 1,000 to 1,200 meters. Meanwhile, the Mediterranean coast remains warmer, though rainy episodes are developing in the Languedoc and PACA regions due to the interaction between warm sea temperatures and incoming cold air.
