France experiences summer-like heat despite official start of autumn

Despite the official start of autumn on Wednesday, September 23, high temperatures continue to persist across parts of France, including Lyon and the Bouches-du-Rhône department.

In Lyon, sunny conditions and summer-like weather are expected to continue through the weekend, with temperatures projected to reach up to 30°C. While mornings remain cool, afternoon highs are forecast to stay between 26°C and 29°C for several days.

Similarly, the Bouches-du-Rhône region is experiencing temperatures exceeding 30°C. In Marseille, averages are expected to remain around 27°C. Meteorologists suggest that the heat may persist until the end of the month, with a potential shift toward more unsettled weather in October. The prolonged warmth is partly attributed to the El Niño phenomenon in the Pacific.
