France faces challenges in abortion access and public rights visibility

In France, the practical application of constitutional abortion rights is facing challenges regarding both public visibility and medical access. An advertising campaign by the association REVHO has deployed posters across 130 locations in the Paris metro and RER networks. These advertisements use a QR code to direct users to a platform for locating abortion providers. This follows previous controversies regarding the neutrality of public transport advertising, such as the refusal of religious-themed campaigns by MediaTransports.

Simultaneously, a report from Planning familial indicates that despite the constitutional protection of abortion rights, access to care has become more difficult. Two years after the right was enshrined in the Constitution, women are reporting longer wait times for medical appointments and increased instances of care refusal. Approximately 75% of women who underwent abortions in health facilities reported waiting more than seven days for an initial appointment. These delays and the shortage of practitioners, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas, can limit patients' ability to choose specific medical methods, such as medication-based abortions, due to regulatory time limits.
