France faces political unrest and election interference concerns
France is facing political turbulence ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, marked by controversies surrounding the Rassemblement National (RN) and allegations of foreign interference in media.
Jordan Bardella, a rising star within the RN, is facing scrutiny following an investigation by Mediapart. The report claims to have verified private correspondence from the 2013-2015 period containing antisemitic and conspiracy-themed remarks. Bardella has denied the allegations, calling the messages “fake,” and has received support from Marine Le Pen, who dismissed the claims as “madness.”
Simultaneously, concerns have emerged regarding data security and election interference at the public broadcaster France TV. Reports indicate that management considered partnering with the Israeli firm Terrific to develop digital tools for interactive political programming. Despite warnings from staff regarding data security and the risk of external interference, the partnership was reportedly considered before management withdrew from the decision. This follows previous legal proceedings against the firm BlackCore for allegedly spreading disinformation during local elections.
