France faces rising borrowing costs amid debt uncertainty

Financial markets are reacting to growing uncertainty regarding French sovereign debt. Investors are demanding significantly higher risk premiums for French government bonds compared to previous years.

This trend is reflected in the 10-year OAT-Bund spread, which measures the interest rate premium France must pay over German Bunds. The rising cost of borrowing threatens to create a downward spiral, as increased interest expenses make necessary fiscal consolidation more difficult to achieve.
