French politicians file complaints over Russian disinformation
French political figures are reporting targeted disinformation campaigns ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Raphaël Glucksmann and former Prime Minister Gabriel Attal have both filed legal complaints following what they describe as Russian-linked interference operations.
Researchers from the AntiBot4Navalny network have linked these activities to a secret Russian influence operation known as Matryoshka. Reports indicate that fabricated videos, some using the branding of established French news outlets like Le Figaro and Libération, were used to spread false claims about Attal's health and political integrity.
Glucksmann stated that the pro-Russian group Storm-1516, which is allegedly directed by the GRU, was involved in a campaign that included a deepfake video involving his partner, journalist Léa Salamé. The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into these matters as French authorities, including Viginum, monitor the threat of foreign interference.
