France faces severe wind and storm threats this week

France is preparing for a period of intense weather instability characterized by Atlantic disturbances and significant wind risks. Following recent heavy rainfall in the south, weather patterns are shifting toward the Atlantic coast.

Starting Wednesday, October 21, wind alerts are in effect for Brittany, Loire-Atlantique, Normandy, and Hauts-de-France, with gusts reaching 80 to 90 km/h along the English Channel. Some regions, such as Vendée, face dual alerts for both wind and thunderstorms. In the south, orange alerts for flooding remain in place for Gard, while Corsica faces multiple warnings for rain, wind, and storms.

A major storm is forecasted for Friday, October 23, centered over northern France and the English Channel. This depression, with pressures around 980 hPa, could produce wind gusts between 130 and 140 km/h on exposed coastlines. A second, deeper depression is expected on Sunday, October 25, with pressures dropping to 955 hPa; however, this system is projected to track further north toward Scotland, primarily impacting the British Isles.
