France faces widespread unrest as riots spread nationwide

France is experiencing widespread social unrest as riots spread across the country, including major demonstrations in Paris and Lyon. Reports indicate that approximately 256,000 people participated in nationwide demonstrations, with 56,000 in Paris alone. Since late September, more than 6,500 arrests have been made, and dozens of police officers have been injured.

The unrest reportedly began in the Paris suburb of Créteil, with official narratives citing dissatisfaction over the condition of public schools, overcrowded classrooms, and dilapidated buildings. However, social media footage has shown significant destruction of schools and violent clashes involving rocks, bottles, and tear gas.

This period of instability coincides with a challenging fiscal situation and ongoing debates regarding mass migration. The domestic turmoil occurs amid declining approval ratings for President Emmanuel Macron, contributing to political uncertainty ahead of next year’s presidential election.
