France: Fatalities reported in school bus crash and severe flooding
Multiple tragedies have been reported in France following a school bus accident and extreme weather conditions. In the Ain department, a school bus carrying students veered off the D22 road near Bourg-en-Bresse, struck a tree, and fell into a ditch. Local authorities and media reports indicate that at least two people have died, including a minor, and several others have been injured. Emergency responders, including helicopters, were deployed to the scene.
Simultaneously, heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding across southern France and Corsica. In Corsica, two people died after their vehicle was swept away by floodwaters. In the Gard department, the Vidourle river exceeded its 2014 flood levels, reaching 4.09 meters. The historic center of Sommières has been heavily inundated, with water entering homes, prompting authorities to urge residents to remain indoors and avoid travel.
