France fiber connectivity reaches 95.3% of premises

According to data released by Arcep on September 10, 2026, fiber optic connectivity in France has reached a stage where 43.1 million premises are connectable, representing 95.3% of the 45.2 million premises surveyed. However, approximately 2.1 million premises remain to be connected. Over one-third of these remaining locations are not due to a lack of network presence, but rather due to third-party refusals of intervention—such as from property syndicates—or because the buildings are still under construction.

While connectivity is high, the growth of fiber subscriptions is showing signs of deceleration. France currently has 28.1 million fiber subscriptions, accounting for 85% of all fixed internet subscriptions. Although fiber gained 460,000 subscribers between April and June, this represents a slowdown compared to the 610,000 gained in the same quarter of the previous year.

The overall fixed internet market is shifting toward high-speed technology, with very high-speed access now making up 90% of the market. Conversely, traditional broadband subscriptions continue to decline, with DSL falling to 2.58 million subscriptions. The pace of new FttH line installations has dropped by nearly 47% compared to the second quarter of 2025.
