France food industry faces recruitment challenges
The food industry in France, encompassing professions related to the transformation, manufacture, and sale of food products, faces significant recruitment challenges. While the sector offers various career paths and evolution opportunities—often accessible through apprenticeships—many roles in catering and butchery are struggling to find workers.
During the 37th edition of 'Semaine du Goût' (Week of Taste), held from October 12 to 18, the importance of these culinary professions is highlighted. Despite the cultural celebration, data from France Travail indicates a complex labor market. While the restaurant sector remains a primary driver for hiring intentions, with roles such as kitchen assistants and versatile catering employees leading in volume, overall recruitment projects have seen a decline. According to France Travail's labor needs survey, the total volume of recruitment projects decreased by 6.5% compared to the previous year.
