France food insecurity affects 7 million adults

A new study released by the NGO Action contre la Faim reveals that approximately 7 million adults in France, or 13% of the population, report lacking sufficient food ‘sometimes or often’. The data highlights a significant generational divide, as the rate of food insecurity rises to 25% among young adults aged 18 to 24.

Beyond total lack of food, the study indicates qualitative deprivation. Roughly 39% of French adults report having enough to eat but are forced to forgo specific foods they would prefer to consume, a figure that increases to 47% among the 18-24 age demographic. In overseas departments and regions (DROM), where poverty rates are higher, the number of affected individuals could reach 7.2 million.

In response to these findings, Action contre la Faim is calling for the adoption of a framework law to guarantee the right to food, noting that food insecurity is a critical issue that has not been sufficiently integrated into public debate.
