France gas prices: Households face 120 euro average increase in 2026

French households may face an average increase of approximately 120 euros in gas bills in 2026 compared to 2025, according to projections from the Commission de régulation de l'énergie (CRE). CRE President Emmanuelle Wargon noted that reference gas prices are set to rise by 6.3% on October 1st due to wholesale market increases in August, contributing to a total rise of about 30% since the start of the year.

Wargon stated that while 2026 estimates are indicative based on current price trends, visibility for 2027 remains difficult due to market volatility. Regarding energy security, the CRE president expressed confidence in France's gas supply for the upcoming winter. Storage levels reached 76% as of recent reports, up from 50% on August 1st, and are expected to meet the European Union's 85% requirement before the winter season begins.
