France health officials urge continued Covid-19 vaccination

Health experts in France are emphasizing the continued importance of Covid-19 vaccination to prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and intensive care requirements. As a new epidemic wave develops, officials from Santé publique France note that while widespread vaccination is no longer the norm, the vaccine remains the most effective tool for protecting vulnerable populations.

Infectiologist Valérie Delbos highlighted that vaccination can prevent a cascade of medical complications, including potential cardiovascular events such as strokes. Additionally, vaccinating the relatives of vulnerable individuals can help limit virus transmission within households.

Despite these benefits, the Direction générale de la santé (DGS) reports a decline in vaccine uptake. Sophie Vaux, an epidemiologist at Santé publique France, noted that only approximately 14% of at-risk individuals were vaccinated last season, representing a four-point decrease from the previous year.
