France Heatwave Hits Fruit Supply as Climate Council Calls Nation Unready

The French inter‑professional body Interfel says that, despite an unprecedented summer heatwave, the supply of fresh fruit and vegetables remains stable nationwide, though some products show occasional visual defects. Producers have shifted harvest hours to cooler periods, intensified irrigation and monitoring to protect quality and yields, and warn that the final impact on harvests will only be known after the heat subsides.

In its eighth annual report released during the third wave of heat in two months, the Haut Conseil pour le climat warned that France is "not ready" for the accelerating climate crisis. The council urged rapid, large‑scale adaptation measures, a doubling of emission‑reduction rates, and greater financing for water‑storage and other resilience projects. Both reports highlight the strain on French agriculture and the urgent need for stronger climate policies.
