France weather transition brings thunderstorms and cooler temperatures

A significant weather transition is occurring across France as a prolonged heatwave begins to subside, replaced by increased atmospheric instability and widespread thunderstorms.

Météo-France has issued alerts for numerous departments, with many placed under yellow vigilance for storms and heavy rain. The most intense activity is expected in the southeast, including the Rhône Valley, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, and Corsica. These storms may bring heavy rainfall, hail, and wind gusts reaching up to 80 km/h.

The exceptionally warm temperatures of the Mediterranean Sea are acting as a source of moisture and energy, potentially intensifying the severity of these storm cells. While temperatures are expected to drop toward seasonal norms, the transition period will be marked by volatile weather conditions through the end of the week.
