France hosts Nuit des étoiles events in Toulouse and Val‑Couesnon

On 7 August 2026 the Cité de l’espace in Toulouse opened its grounds for a free, public Nuit des étoiles night, offering telescopic observations of the Sun, Moon and stars, workshops such as “Assemble ton télescope”, and cultural performances including a poetic show by the Compagnie Millimétrée and a Star Wars‑themed laser‑saber display. The event, part of a national series celebrating astronomy, ran from 20:30 to 00:30 and attracted a large audience under clear skies.

A month earlier, on 25 July 2026, the youth council of Val‑Couesnon in Ille‑et‑Vilaine held its first Nuit des étoiles. Organized in partnership with the Club d’astronomie Amateurs d’étoiles, the evening gathered around 200 participants who observed the Sun, Moon and early stars from a football field turned observatory, and enjoyed activities such as water‑rocket launches, storytelling, and live music.

Both events highlight growing community interest in accessible science outreach across France, with local authorities and amateur astronomer groups collaborating to bring the night sky to the public.
