France hosts international summit on the future of cinema

The Lumière Summit, an unprecedented international gathering focused on the future of cinema, convened in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France. Co-organized by French President Emmanuel Macron and South Korean counterpart Lee Jae Myung, the event brought together 200 guests from 55 countries to address challenges facing the film and audiovisual industries.

Participants include Hollywood studios such as Disney and Sony Pictures, streaming services, television networks, and video game publishers. The summit aims to foster new alliances and concrete actions to combat threats posed by artificial intelligence and streaming platforms, as well as a 40% decline in cinema attendance over the last five years.

Key attendees include representatives from the South Korean media conglomerate CJ Group, various international culture ministers, and French media executives from Canal+, TF1, and Mediawan. The National Centre for Cinema (CNC) is co-piloting the event, seeking to establish lasting dialogue between sectors that have historically operated in isolation.
