France inflation rises above 2% in July 2026
France's provisional July 2026 inflation data show the consumer price index climbing to 2.1% year‑on‑year, up from 1.8% in June. The harmonised CPI (HICP) rose even faster to 2.4%, beating economists' forecasts of 2.1%. The surge is driven mainly by energy costs, which jumped 12.4% on the year, and by higher prices for services such as accommodation and communication, which rose around 2‑3%. Food price growth stayed modest at about 0.9%, while manufactured‑goods prices fell slightly. Producer‑price growth also slowed, with domestic producer prices up 2.6% year‑on‑year in June. The French statistics office INSEE released these provisional figures on 31 July and the Ministry of Economy (Bercy) said the government remains mobilised to protect households' purchasing power. In the overseas department of Mayotte, annual inflation was also recorded at 2.0% for the June‑to‑June 2026 period, with energy price increases of 16.3% as the main driver.
